Full Time Substance Abuse Counselor – Hinckley
Day One is seeking an experienced counselor who wants to make a positive difference in the lives of youth and their families. We have a full-time opportunity available for an experienced substance abuse counselor to join our team of professional colleagues at our residential treatment program for adolescent boys located in Hinckley, ME.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as primary therapist conducting substance abuse assessments; provide individual, group, and family counseling to young people in recovery, ages 13-18; maintain all clinical records in accordance with agency, licensing, and clinical standards. Maintain clinical coverage and supervision of clients, participating in rotating shift coverage, supervising resident activities, ensuring that rules and safety measures are observed and take necessary steps to maintain the therapeutic milieu of the residence. Participate in clinical supervision, training, and staff meetings; work collaboratively with colleagues and facility staff, other contracted services staff, and with other Day One staff to further Day One’s mission and effectively serve clients. Participate in rotating shift coverage, which may include evenings, weekend, holidays and daytime hours.
Minimum Requirements and Skills Needed for Position: Experience working with and counseling adolescent substance abuse clients. Experience conducting assessments and providing individual, family and group substance abuse counseling. Minimum two years of direct experience working with substance abuse and adolescents. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to cope with stressful situations and to interact cordially with clients and co-workers to accomplish tasks. This position is full-time during the day; however, requires the ability to work flexible hours, including occasionally scheduled early evening, holiday, or weekend hours. Preference will be given to candidates with adolescent residential experience, and those with strong leadership qualities.

Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred), with relevant training experience working with and counseling adolescents with substance abuse issues. Minimum of 2 or more years of directly related experience with counseling adolescents and providing group facilitation. At least one year of supervised clinical performance. Must have CADC; LADC preferred.
