The Day One Board of Directors announces the selection of Gregory Bowers as the non-profit agency’s new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Bowers will step into the role on December 4, 2017. Day One is Maine’s leading agency dedicated to addressing youth substance use and mental health concerns. Mr. Bowers has been serving as the Interim CEO of Community Partners, Inc. in Biddeford and was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Maine Behavioral Healthcare immediately prior.
Dennis Carrillo, President of the Day One Board of Directors and head of the CEO search committee, cited Mr. Bowers’ strong history of non-profit leadership in Maine and noted that Mr. Bowers stood out among many strong candidates for the role. “Day One’s search committee is thrilled to have identified Greg as the person who will continue to strengthen Day One into the future as we build upon its strong foundation and reputation for providing outstanding services to Maine’s youth,” said Carrillo. “We know that Greg’s wealth of experience in the healthcare and social service sectors will serve him well as CEO.”
As Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Maine Behavioral Healthcare, Mr. Bowers was responsible for leading the financial, operational and planning aspects of the organization. In filling these roles over his eighteen-year tenure, he was instrumental in the development of an integrated system of behavioral health care. Mr. Bowers commented on the tremendous opportunities that exist for Day One amid what many characterize as a substance use crisis in our State and Nation. “Day One has a long history of providing exceptional substance use and behavioral health care to our State’s at-risk youth. Now more than ever, this agency’s mission is proving to be critical in our State’s response to these significant challenges. I am proud to be joining this tremendously talented and committed staff in continuing to grow and expand the significant impact Day One has on our communities.”
Day One, headquartered in South Portland, Maine, has been working with Maine youth and families, schools and communities for 44 years. It was selected six times as a Best Place to Work in Maine. The Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services has identified Day One as having “a proven track record in providing services to substance abusing youth” and noted that “Day One is the only designated Center of Excellence dealing exclusively with adolescents.”
